PETER JAY BACKS TV-am MUSEUM
TV-am's founding chairman and chief executive Peter Jay has given his support to the TV-am museum and website by donating a large number of personal items to the archive. Letters, documents and other material were presented to broadcaster and journalist Ian White to be preserved for years to come in the archive run by TV-am (Breakfast Television) Limited. Included is a framed copy of the original letter from the Independent Broadcasting Authority formally offering the TV-am consortium the breakfast -time ITV franchise. The original signed contract between TV-am and the IBA was also donated by Peter. This greatly boosts the written documentation held in the TV-am archive and helps paint a clearer picture of the work carried out between December 1980 and February 1983 to get the station on the air. Peter Jay told Ian White it was important the documents were included in the wider collection so they could be used for reference in the future and that he was pleased they were going to a good home. He described the archiving project as "splendid". MORE TV-am TREASURES UNEARTHED
In recent months we've added numerous new items including the original artwork for the first TV-am station logo and a rare collection of documents and other material relating to the station's original franchise application and launch. All material donated to the TV-am museum is preserved for years to come to provide accurate information about the company and its programmes. We were also pleased to meet up recently with Tom Cook, a consultant to Peter Jay and David Frost, who wrote a large section of the original TV-am franchise application document. Tom is pictured below with Ian White outside The London Studios, now home to GMTV.
