TV-am demolition continues

If you looked down Hawley Crescent in Camden Town thirty years ago you would have seen builders transforming a car showroom on the banks of the canal into a state of the art TV centre for TV-am.  Thirty years on, the builders are back, this time changing the look of the iconic award winning building for good.

All traces of TV-am are soon to disappear at the front.  The sunrise archway has already been removed and the two TV studios have been flattened.  All that remains of them is a pile of rubble.

Current owners MTV Europe are having the old Breakfast Television Centre changed to create more office space.  The TV-am building was sold to MTV in 1993.  It was designed by architect Terry Farrell and is one of the first examples of post modern architecture in Britain.

There is some good news.  The famous TV-am eggcups are to stay on the back of the building next to the canal, although the rear of the complex has been repainted grey and white.  Some of the eggcups have been given a fresh lick of paint too.
